It's been one of the most popular government programs ever, but it all ends SATURDAY, August 22nd at the close of business! The CARS Program has been part of the federal effort to stimulate the economy. And families coast-to-coast have participated, trading in their old gas guzzlers for newer, more fuel efficient models.

"CARS" stands for "Car Allowance Rebate System" — although you may have heard it referred by its less flattering name, "Cash For Clunkers." The program is fully in effect and is going on right now.

Whatever it's called, we all know it's smart to "recycle" some of the less fuel-efficient, older cars on the road and replace them with newer more fuel efficient models. The CARS Program will help that happen.

Exactly which older vehicles qualify for the program — and how much they're worth — can get complicated.
